Raapsteeltjes
This is a classic recipe from the Van Zuylen (Timmer?) family. It was Ellen's favorite food when she was growing up.The recipe says that we should feed the roots of the turnip greens to the rabbits, but we didn't as we have had some bad experiences lately with leaving our garbage outside and are trying to discourage ugly wildlife (what kind of animal is grey-ish, as big as a big cat, round, and has a white triangle on its face?) to come close to our home.

Sharp!
Not really clear in this resolution, but this photo is way sharper than our usual photos.

Here's why -- we found out we have a tripod!
It does make you wonder ... Are we taking our food photography a bit too seriously to make up for other areas in our lives where we are less successful??

Back from the flu' -- part IV
Back from the flu' -- part III
While Frans was sick, it was also the time of the most important social event in the so-called life of a graduate student in Operations Research: the Big Red Barn party.
Here are some pictures from the evening, but more importantly, here is a video of my favorite band that actually came and performed that night.

I can't really cook.
I've of course known this for a long time -- all I do is chop vegetables, make a vinaigrette or so, and clean up the mess, and I leave the actual cooking to Frans. However, Frans kept insisting that I can indeed cook. Today I had an opportunity to prove him wrong, Frans himself being too sick to cook (he seems to have the flu').
So I made some pesto, which turned out so-so because half the basil had to be thrown out, and the pesto consequently had too much garlic, because I failed to take this into account. Then I cooked some tortellini and allowed them to get cold while I made the pork chops, which were not ruined as such, but not exactly high quality either.
I can't wait till Frans gets well, so I can just concentrate on chopping (and eating).

There's a first time for everything...
... and today was the first time we ordered pizza delivery. (Really?? Yes, really!)
Of course we chose a bit of an inopportune evening for this first-time-pizza-delivery, since the "super" bowl has everyone ordering pizza today. So we had to curb our hunger for an hour by making some fries (since being dutch means we always have enough potatoes around).

Eventually, our pizza did arrive. And of course we already knew this, but Sindbad makes a pretty darn good pizza.
