Flammkuchen and More Pizza

Flammkuchen

Flammkuchen

This Flammkuchen came out extremely well. Maybe because I used rapeseed oil to make the dough.

Pizza!

It also worked really well for making pizza. One side of the pizza contained anchovy, onion, pepper, capers and mozzarella, the other side onion, smoked ham, mozzarella and arugula.

Mango and Carrots

We also made Ghillie's mango and carrot dish.

Pasta

And from recipes we got from Ellen, we chose this pasta with fennel and arugula.

Flammkuchen

Salmon Flammkuchen

Besides a traditional Flammkuchen, we also made one with the salmon we found in our fridge, that was a little past its "best if used by"-date. So I guess not best, but not too bad either.

Bad Pictures of (Reasonably) Good Food

We went to Zum Adler yesterday. This restaurant was recommended by A's new boss when we visited, but was completed booked when we tried it then. This time we were a bit earlier, and they still had a free table. The Flammkuchen with Münster and kümmel was very enjoyable, the veal kidneys not too shabby. (The desserts, however, were of such a quality that the server worriedly asked whether we did not like it when she came to pick up the dishes.)

I don't know what to call this post

I still feel a bit overwhelmed with the new impressions. But F says I should post nonetheless because otherwise you guys will get bored and will stop visiting our blog. So here is my attempt at a blog post:

1. We are so happy to be doing some impulse buying again! There was way too little of that in China because it was hard to find quality goods for impulsive buying. We will try to make up for two years of not buying any junk, starting with these beautiful 1 liter beer glasses.

2. As F already mentioned, we cook a lot in our temporary big kitchen. Here's some veal with a caper-lemon-butter sauce.

3. Our new bikes are the best! Here they are in front of a house of which we may end up renting the ground floor.

4. The university is smack in the middle of this:

5. A little farther afield (30 minutes by bike) is France, where we ate this:

We had decided to decadently have duck for lunch.

We had some other stuffz too, also.

For dinner we tried to tone it down, and pretend we're Germans.

Inspired by the Alsace

On Monday we made a classic Flammkuchen with the bacon that we bought on the market in Saarbruecken and a fantasy Flammkuchen with apple and the boudin noir that we brought from France.

Preparations are underway

Just to prove that we belong in the land of Cafe Konstanz (mebbe), we made Flammkuchen and cheese fondue today.

It was good.

Brotchen!

We had brunch at a south German bakery called Cafe Konstanz yesterday.

Look at that bread! Even brotchen did not have such good bread!

And they had Flammkuchen too!
