This was a small restaurant, and I didn't catch the name called 青海饭馆. The restaurant is at 39.9371 latitude, 116.3558 longitude, and, yes, I have a new cell phone and entered the 22nd century.

Home cooking

This Saturday we decided to make a pasta with tomato sauce. We bought fresh vegetables and fresh tomatoes, and the result was slightly different than what we had in mind:

It was very refreshing and fruity: we added a little balsamic vinegar to accentuate the fruitiness.

On Sunday we experimented again. This time our goal was to make something Rösti-esque:

The sausage that we used was a present from Amanda. It is a specialty from her home town, and for good reason: it is wonderfully smoky and worked really well in this Rösti-fantasy.

La Paleta

Amanda took us to La Paleta: a restaurant with Cantonese-esque foodz, and waitresses with short hair.

This crispy pork was nice and crispy.

The yolks of these baozi with runny yolk was nice and runny.

The pork in these... oh well, you catch my drift...

Backlog: Last week(end)

I bet everyone is very interested to know that last weekend we had stone-oven baked pizza and bitterballen in Sanlitunr.

Bitterballen in Beijing

Actually, yesterday we also ate bitterballen, but this time in the expat-heaven called Shunyi. We were quite surprised to be allowed into Shunyi district without the requisite gaggle of noisy blond children. Also, we will most likely never go back there again because we don't like noisy blond children.

We also cooked at home a few times recently. Made the old "so-good" roasted red peppers with feta and preserved lemon and, when Frans was suffering from what we hope was H1N1, home made tomato-pepper soup.

Finally, a picture taken from the cab last weekend.

Oh, and then there is this photo, which was already posted earlier. Frans received an email last week that his presence is requested at the award ceremony of the photo competition to which he submitted this photo. So exciting!!!
Although we're a bit disappointed that there are 400 finalists and only 50 people will actually win anything.

Most beautiful office ever

I (Anke) moved into my new office yesterday.

Image_00088

It has made me decide not to look for another job for next year. What is the point? No-one will ever give me such a beautiful corner office again!
