Caution: Girls Learning How To Use Computer

At Saarland University, they really know how to encourage girls.

At lunch in the mensa last week, two flyers caught my eye. I am a girl and, hence, I will read anything that is written on pink paper.

Look, I can learn how to use Microsoft Word while being female!!! I can even learn how to use Powerpoint!

But I am a little worried, because if there will be boys in the course, they will laugh at me. Even though those boys would also still be learning how to use these programs, they would obviously learn much more quickly. Because everybody knows boys are better at computers than girls.

Fortunately, the person in charge of gender equality has found a solution for this. It is an extremely elementary computer course that is just for girls! No boys allowed! This is going to give me such an advantage on the career ladder...

Finish the story

As Anke left home today to ride her bike to university, she passed two little girls in the street in front of the house. One gave the other a little nudge, and then the other:

(a) said to her "Sie sind cool!"

(b) vomited onto a plate, see the photo above.

After another bit of biking we were too lazy to make our own foods, and so went to our favorite Chinese restaurant in Germany: Sake.

We are a little behind in posting our Michelin star quality foodz. Do note the fly hovering over Bibendum's head, ready to land in some soup.



We had schnitzel and potato salad at some point this week, and it did not disappoint.

Eurovision Foodz

Before indulging in the ancient European tradition of listening to bad songs, badly performed by second rate artists, also known as the Eurovision Song Contest, we made a wonderful laksa!

High tech and hip as we are, we not only watched it on the intertoobz, but also simultaneously followed the twitter hash tag #eurovision. We could thus enjoy gems like: "#Eurovision And here's Italy with 'Fuck This Shit'. They could've at least done a song called 'Bunga Bunga'" and "If I wasn't depressed before, I am now. Merci France. #Eurovision".

Meanwhile, team Hilvaria Studio's has no idea how close F was to adding "eurovisie" to the list of query words of their AdWords campaign, with an advertisement "Kom morgen gezellig napraten over het songfestival in ons illegaal partycentrum."

The winner turned out to be a slight deception, which is not surprising after so much excitement. Hence a video, not of the winning song by Azerbaijan, but of Armenia's entry last year about a peach pit, which I like a lot better.

That Time of the Year Already?

Time flies. Sadly enough we did not manage to get tickets to the music event of the year. Luckily a local cinema has all the live action. Let's see if we can still get tickets.

And... congratulations to Gavin. Without a doubt it's Ireland's year (again --- it will be their 8th win) with the awesome song above.

Not always successful

Just in case y'all are feeling like we always make the most wonderful foodz and we rock like no one else in the world, we can tell you that in fact, sometimes our food does not work out the way we hope it will.



Like today's pad thai, in which we boldly substituted shrimps for chicken breast and arugula for watercress. Edible for sure, but not one of our finer creations.

Business as usual

We will just ignore the fact that our world has been turned upside down, in that we now no longer have to fear attacks by the original bogeyman, but that, on the other hand, the word "justice" said by a constitutional law professor has taken on a different meaning than the one we thought it had. Oh well, whatever.

We started a Chinese restaurant. It is called 福.




At the restaurant, we serve Zhajiangmian (炸酱面).



Because we have no business sense whatsoever, we will now give you F's secret recipe as well:

" Almost all recipes for 炸酱面 I found online use minced meat. I tried to emulate the noodles of a specific restaurant in Beijing, however (one that is famous for its 炸酱面). I think they use julienned pork belly, so I used unsmoked bacon. Other ingredients are onions, celery, which were fried with the bacon; then I added the fermented soy bean paste and some hoi sin sauce. This sauce is then placed on top of some noodles, together with some finely chopped vegetables (I used celery, spring onions, rettich (radish) and cucumber --- could further add soy beans and bean sprouts for example). Mix up well and enjoy."
