Non Beijing Foodz

Lamb

Here are some foodz we ate before taking the night train back to Beijing. First of all, this wonderful lamb. Sadly enough, we were scammed and had to pay as if this were a full portion. Any fool can see that this is only a half portion, just like we ordered.

Pork

Our lunch before taking the train consisted of this sweet (and a little sour, but mostly sweet) pork...

Special Vegetable

... some special vegetables, that A really liked (it tasted like licking the trunk of a tree to me)...

Sizzling Tofu

... and some sizzling tofu, that the waiters were hesitant to take the cover of.

Prayer Wheels

Temple Art

Prayer Wheel

In addition to admiring these prayer wheels and murals in the temples, we bought a little solar-powered prayer wheel for Gete's successor. I am too tired/lazy to take a picture of the prayer wheel, so you'll have to wait until we have purchased our second Gete...

Tibetan Food

Tsirzin

The more interesting food we had in Xiahe, we ate in Nomad Restaurant, which served nomad and Tibetan food. Pictured above was the pinnacle of nomad food: Tsirzin. It is made of yak cheese, butter and sugar. Yak cheese has a very distinct flavor that you either love or hate. On further reflection, I actually wonder whether there exist people who love it.

Yak Meat

This yak meat, on the other hand, was very delicious.

Oh Hur

You cannot go wrong with oliebollen...

Cucumber

... or cucumber.

Momos

I heard you wondering aloud where the momos were, after I announced Tibetan food. Here they are.

Paale

Another dish with yak.

Tsampa with Soup

Also, Tibetan breakfast.

Karkhun

The ingredients of momo combined in a different way.

Oh Ndjee

I really loved this rice dish, both for lunch and dinner.

Chinese Food

Noodles

From Langmusi we traveled to Xiahe: a slightly larger mountainous town in Gansu. Our first lunch consisted of Chinese food.

Langmusi Monasteries

Langmusi

Langmusi

F was sick so we spent a couple of days hanging around Langmusi, during which time, A got to hold the camera. Only the above two photos from this experience are worthy of this blog.

Temple

On our final day in Langmusi, F had recovered enough to finally visit the sites that Langmusi is famous for: its monasteries. They offered myriad opportunities for F to show A that she still has a lot to learn (as if she did not know!)
