Another Scorcher

After weeks of crappy weather, we are now experiencing near tropical temperatures again. This did not stop us from going biking, even though some of us (F) did have a bit of a hard time in the end.

Back home we tried to beat Rachel Ray at her own game: we made this pasta salad in less than 15 minutes. (Ok, there were two of us.)

Chinese

The new cookbook is working out very well. The cabbage above was really good (and easy), and this pork was not too shabby either:

Help F to become as cool as me

One of my former class mates won the Edison Publieksprijs Jazz last year. Of course, Frans has been feeling a bit left behind since then, but, fortunately, one of his former class mates isn't doing too bad either.
To help Frans feel better, go and vote for Wolfert Brederode's Post scriptum. For Wolfert, it is just a minor stepping stone on his way to becoming the next Keith Jarrett, but it would mean a lot to Frans...

Barbecue

Chicken and veggies from the barbecue. Served with preserved lemon and green olives from the Turkish shop. Awesomeness.

New Cookbook

It's called The Chinese Kitchen, and written by Deh-Ta Hsiung. This first recipe did not disappoint: great authentic flavors and it is always great fun to use an ingredient for the first time --- I had never used zha cai before.

Also, apologies (again) to all our readers for the fact that our stream of posts has gone down to a sorry trickle. Luckily Nobel prize laureate Paul Krugman is covering for us on his blog.

Photos from Eyetaly
Finally, then, the long awaited pictures of my celebration of Pentecost. This is the famous Frascati porchetta to be enjoyed with loads and loads of Frascati wine. You buy your pork, bread, cheese and olives at a local shop and then you sit down at a table at a cantina, where they bring you a paper table cloth and the loads of wine for less than 3 euros. The Spirit indeed blew where it pleased...
Another favorite event during my two day stay was breakfast.

Live bloggink!
I is in Eyetaly to present yet another brilliant paper by me, the husband, and the former advisor, at an International Conference. The conference has not even started, and already I is havink fun. And too much wine. And pork.
Eyetaly is great because lone women are given more wine than they need, and free cherries (???)

Perhaps not a good idea as I have to give a presentation at 9:20 tomorrow mornink. But who cares.

Badly Behind

Apologies for the irregularity of the blog posts. We actually ate this reblochonade before our camping trip.

Two pastas this week. Above a pasta with squash and feta, and below the pièce de résistance:

Food was eaten and photos were taken

Even during their vacation, the teams from WTAW and EK do not rest, and continue to eat and take photos of what they eat, for your entertainment.

And camping, too!
We missed the US, because camping in Germany involves being surrounded by small permanent mobile homes filled with retirees busy keeping their little bitsy gardens, and no open fires or bears, or anything remotely exciting.
However, camping in Germany also involves being joined by Ellen and Christiaan, which makes up for all of that!

Hiking along the Rotweinwanderweg
Red wine and hiking - who would not love that combination? ...apparently, anyone under the age of 65 except for us, because we did not meet anyone who was not retired. But whatever, young people just don't know what they are missing..
