Some Final Pics from Our Holland Visit

We are home after all our summer travels! So I guess it's time to finally post some (not so recent) pictures from our visit to Holland. Pictured above: a palpable hue of anticipation of the birthday of Poppa...

Then, for old times' sake (and great food), we went to Snackbar Bird in Amsterdam:

Still famous for their BLT sandwiches and fruit shakes, and rightly so.

Dinner

Tuncay knows the awesomest restaurants in DC. We knew the Ethiopian restaurant from a previous visit, and this time he took us to a Thai restaurant.



It was like being in Thailand, maybe even better. These first two pictures are the appetizers: chicken salad and cucumber soup.

Then another four dishes were served:



Beef salad.



Fish.



And pumpkin curry. I am missing a picture of the slow cooked pork. Each dish was simply awesome.



As a "filler" there was some Pad Thai, and for dessert sticky rice with mango.

Highly recommended: Thai X-ing in Washington DC.

We used our little Thai cookbook from our friend Albert Heijn to make this fried rice and fish with onion relish. Our French supermarket really has some very good fresh fish! (Even though they don't have aquariums and the fish is not killed just after I order it.)

Not always successful

Just in case y'all are feeling like we always make the most wonderful foodz and we rock like no one else in the world, we can tell you that in fact, sometimes our food does not work out the way we hope it will.



Like today's pad thai, in which we boldly substituted shrimps for chicken breast and arugula for watercress. Edible for sure, but not one of our finer creations.

Also, Mr. Bojangles does not seem to like his food any more after I decided to make a blog post about it. We decided to splurge and get 55 cent cans, but he does not really want to eat these either.

Very Thai

We had Thai food in Beijing today. It didn't disappoint, in fact it was Very Thai, just as the name of the restaurant promised.

For the interested reader: we had seafood salad, green papaya salad (of course!), morning glory with shrimp paste, tom yum kung, panang curry with beef and red curry fish.

Waterfall beef. Another one of those that looks horrible, but tastes fingerlickin' good. Or something. No wine seems to go with this. :(
