Christmas Dinner 2017

Christmas Dinner 2017

Home-made pâté de campagne to start.

Christmas Dinner 2017

Followed by butternut squash soup.

Christmas Dinner 2017

By the time of the main course, we were already quite satisfied. But we managed to still find a bit of room in our stomachs for sirloin steak with a red wine reduction.

Christmas dinner accomplished. Time to go back to grading.

Great Beijing Food

Sausages

Amanda then took us to her other new favorite restaurant: Meizhou Dongpo.

Veggie Soup

And, of course, this was an excellent choice.

Dong Po Rou

The main attraction was the dongporou, pictured above: perfect texture, wonderful flavors, and as an added bonus, a little spiciness.

Dong Po Rou

So good in fact, that it warrants two photos.

Veggies

The other dishes (dongpo sausage, soup with a special vegetable, these vegetables with some tofu, and the tofu below) were excellent as well. But the dongporou was in a league of its own.

Here is were the magic happened:

Tibetan Food

Tsirzin

The more interesting food we had in Xiahe, we ate in Nomad Restaurant, which served nomad and Tibetan food. Pictured above was the pinnacle of nomad food: Tsirzin. It is made of yak cheese, butter and sugar. Yak cheese has a very distinct flavor that you either love or hate. On further reflection, I actually wonder whether there exist people who love it.

Yak Meat

This yak meat, on the other hand, was very delicious.

Oh Hur

You cannot go wrong with oliebollen...

Cucumber

... or cucumber.

Momos

I heard you wondering aloud where the momos were, after I announced Tibetan food. Here they are.

Paale

Another dish with yak.

Tsampa with Soup

Also, Tibetan breakfast.

Karkhun

The ingredients of momo combined in a different way.

Oh Ndjee

I really loved this rice dish, both for lunch and dinner.

Day 2: Cakes

Cake

After a day 1 of too much beer, followed a day 2 of too much cake...

Baked Goods

...some beet soup to work up an appetite for more cakes...

Beet Soup

.. and back to cake.

Cake

Cake

It is lucky that we enjoyed ourselves so much with eating cake, because otherwise, Kaunas turned out to be miserably cold, with icy streets, and sightseeing "highlights" such as a Christmas tree made of plastic bottles.

Abrupt End of Pasta Week

Pumpkin Soup

We were planning to do soup and pasta, but we ate too much bread with this pumpkin soup.

Ramoljoch --- Second Attempt

Ramoljoch

Kiss

On our second attempt, we did manage to cross the Ramoljoch. An occasion that made us jump for joy.

Jump!

Jump!

Jump!

Jump!

We decided to give ourselves a break and descended to the village of Vent instead of the Martin-Busch-Hütte.

Vent

Cartwheel

Nosy Cow

In Vent, we ate. A lot.

Germknödel

Distinguished foodz

Today we had a distinguished guest at ITCS, and therefore we went to a distinguished restaurant to have distinguished foodz.

First of all a distinguished welcome.

Distinguished Anke in a distinguished imperial seat.

On then on to the distinguished foodz: A distinguished flower salad, good for the health of the distinguished gentlemen, as well as advantageous for the beauty of the distinguished ladies.

I still haven't gotten used to this pea gel thingie. They do have a very distinct flavor.

Then probably a distinguished highlight: deer tendons.

Chicken soup.

And finally dessert. Based on your choice your fortune will be predicted by the distinguished fuyar.

It turns out that Anke will have many babies.

(Note that this was only a small selection of all the distinguished foodz that were served today.)
