Flammkuchen and More Pizza

Flammkuchen

Flammkuchen

This Flammkuchen came out extremely well. Maybe because I used rapeseed oil to make the dough.

Pizza!

It also worked really well for making pizza. One side of the pizza contained anchovy, onion, pepper, capers and mozzarella, the other side onion, smoked ham, mozzarella and arugula.

Mango and Carrots

We also made Ghillie's mango and carrot dish.

Pasta

And from recipes we got from Ellen, we chose this pasta with fennel and arugula.

Aux Armes de France

Ellen is visiting us for a few days, and since that also means we have access to poppamomma's car, we decided to take a trip to the Alsace.

The trip did not start off so well, because we left home at noon, and then did not stop for lunch. So we were starving by 3 o'clock and of course everything was closed.
This did not amuse Ellen.

Fortunately, we did manage to amuse her with dinner at Aux Armes de France. In addition, Frans managed to look over 60, and had the senior menu.

The husband's lucky day

It already started with lunch. I feel somewhat threatened that he liked this so much.

Then, he got to go for a long bike ride, while I got to take my bike to the supermarket so F could have a day off from his daily two-hour+ shopping ordeal.

Finally, we got reacquainted with Ghillie Basan. Welcome back in our lives, Ghillie!

Mango = good!

We can get the most amazing mangoes here. They have many different kinds in the market, and they are about as good as the mangoes we ate fresh of the trees in Jamaica.

Yesterday we made Ghillie's mango and carrot dish for the first time in China. Sadly, we had run out of market-bought mangoes, and had to buy one in the supermarket. It was still good, but nowhere near as good as the ones in the market.

Today we got the real thing again from the market.

Wuyutai Neifu Cai

We tried some tea based cuisine yesterday. It was fancier than our normal restaurants, which we could tell by the fact that the portions were small. Maybe not a bad thing, seeing how much we have been eating recently.

duck and something delicious with tea on top, but we forgot what it was

this "homemade pork chops with special sauce" looked really beautiful before our waitress ruined it for us

tofu with crab meat and green tea

mango and tea roll. Maybe the best dessert we've had so far.

They even had live entertainment. We would recommend this restaurant for giving face (no, we are not being crass. Look it up already!).

Mango and carrots again

Anke is trying to take a photo of the mise en place.

But Frans is holding the better camera, and his picture wins hands down.

And this is the resulting carrot - mango - ginger - pistachio - cilantro - thingy. Yum-o!

Mango, carrots and ginger

I think Frans likes mango too now.

Frans doesn't like mango...

...but it was in there with the carrots and ginger anyway, and Frans loved it.
