Gordon's Scrambled Eggs and Smoked Salmon

Croissant, Egg and Salmon

I saw Gordon Ramsey's Christmas special on the plane to the US, and really liked his idea of baking up old croissants and serving it with scrambled egg and salmon. (I really liked everything he was making in that show --- but this one I could easily remember.) Last weekend it was time to try it ourselves. It was as good as I hoped it would be.

As we only used half of the mystery ingredient earlier, we had plenty left over to make a risotto.

We're Back!

Things in Germany seem to take forever and a day, as exemplified by us getting an internet connection. Hence our long break in posting, for which I profusely apologize.

Here then some pictures to prove that we still ate, even without an internet connection:

Yes, Virginia

... we still eat. Even more strongly, we cooked!

Chickpea Salad

Potato

The lamb was a slight disaster however, so shame prevents us from posting pictures.

On the subject of shame, remember that our espresso machine failed us? It turns out that we failed Miss Silvia, our espresso machine. We decided to clean her, before boxing her and getting her ready for being shipped to Europe. After more than one hour of backflushing in which I abused 4 liters of spring water, and kept on channeling Gordon Ramsay ("I drank espresso from that, you PIG!!!"), the water that came out of Miss Silvia was finally not brown any more. And guess what? Her pressure had risen significantly as well! It turns out that Miss Silvia was not broken, but just very dirty. We are pigs. Hurray!

Frans's question of the day: Was this picture taken before or after regurgitating Gordon's risotto?

A colorful trifecta of veal's liver, butternut squash risotto and young spinach sauteed in some butter.
