Hachi!(cago)

Yesterday, I arrived in Chicago. I was prepared for it being less than hot, but, my God, I was not prepared for it being rainy and 47 Fahrenheit (for our European readers: that is 8 Celsius)! I solved my predicament by eating a bowl of delicious spicy noodles at Slurping Turtle, followed by catching up on my beauty sleep. What an exciting life I lead!

Today, I hope to do a bit better. The weather is definitely better with an amazing 57 Fahrenheit (14 Celsius) and plenty of sunshine. But first, I need to prove some ground breaking results, since I don't want to disappoint all of you taxpayers who are paying for this trip!

Welcome to Eat Zhajiangmian

On our last day in Beijing (for now), we had zhajiangmian for lunch (again).

Korean Food

Another thing we were looking very much forward to in Beijing: our local Korean restaurant.



It did not disappoint at all!

These are just a few of the many, many, many dishes we had for lunch.

Chengdu

After the wedding, it was time for some traveling! First destination: Chengdu, about 22 hours by train from Nanyang. We slept like babies in our soft berths.



These are pictures of our first lunch in Chengdu.



Chengdu lies in Sichuan province. This is easy to spot by all the chili oil in the different dishes.

Zhajiangmian

Before flying to Nanyang, we had lunch with Amanda, her mother, her didi (older sister) and daughter and her meimei (younger sister). Everybody agreed on the fact that the best lunch in Beijing consists of zhajiangmian.

Soba noodles. Long time ago. I do remember the herring in it. Like.

Fire!

We are indeed "always so open-minded for trying new things" as Tuncay snidely commented. This time we went to a restaurant where they literally burn your food, before they serve it: burnt ramen.





The noodles were pretty good, and the burnt flavor was very interesting. We also ordered some dumplings, which I thought were really good --- actually quite a bit better than the burnt noodles for which the restaurant is famous.
